On June 7, the cargo vessel Fri Skien experienced a leak while navigating off the coast of France, approximately 20 nautical miles from Cap de la Hague in Normandy. The incident occurred in the mid-afternoon, but the ship maintained its ability to maneuver and navigate despite the leak.
Emergency services were quick to respond, effectively stabilizing the situation without any reported injuries or environmental pollution. An emergency alert was issued to CROSS Jobourg, the French regional maritime rescue coordination center, to facilitate a swift response.
By around 7:00 p.m. local time, an intervention team, along with firefighters, boarded the vessel. They collaborated closely with the captain, shipowner, and crisis management teams to bring the situation under control.
Following the successful operation, the Fri Skien was able to proceed to the port of Le Havre under its own power for a thorough inspection and assessment. The prompt action taken by emergency responders ensured the safety of the crew and minimized potential environmental impacts.
