A tanker was hit by an unidentified projectile while navigating the Strait of Hormuz, north of Khasab in Oman, according to a report from the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) released on Sunday. The agency noted that it received a delayed report regarding the incident, which took place approximately 12 nautical miles (22 kilometers) north of Khasab.
In its warning notice, UKMTO indicated that military authorities were the source of the information, confirming that the tanker was struck while heading inbound in the Strait of Hormuz. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties or environmental damage resulting from the incident.
Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the matter. In light of this event, maritime vessels in the area have been advised to exercise caution while transiting and to report any suspicious activities to UKMTO.
