A cargo vessel was targeted by a drone in Qatari waters northeast of Mesaieed port on Sunday while en route from Abu Dhabi. The Qatari Defence Ministry reported that the attack resulted in a small fire on board, which was quickly contained.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the crew, and the vessel was able to continue its journey toward the port without further incident. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) noted that a bulk carrier had also reported being hit by an unknown projectile while sailing 23 nautical miles northeast of Doha, the capital of Qatar.
Authorities are currently investigating the origin of the projectile, as stated by UKMTO. However, the Qatari Defence Ministry did not provide any details regarding the source of the drone involved in the attack. The incident raises concerns about maritime security in the region, prompting further scrutiny from local and international authorities.
