The Singapore Police Force announced the arrest of eight men on August 13 for their alleged involvement in an illegal marine gas oil transaction. The arrests were made by officers from the Police Coast Guard, who apprehended the suspects, aged between 25 and 54, aboard a Singapore-registered tugboat.
During a routine check at approximately 1:05 AM off the coast of Tuas, the officers discovered that the crew members were likely engaged in the unauthorized sale of marine gas oil. Initial investigations indicated that the crew had misappropriated oil valued at around $10,570 without the knowledge of their employer, selling it for personal profit.
The police have stated that the eight crew members are set to face charges in court on August 14, 2026, under Section 381 of the Penal Code 1871, which addresses theft by a servant of property in the possession of the master. If found guilty, they could face a prison sentence of up to seven years along with a potential fine.
Authorities have emphasized their commitment to tackling illegal marine gas oil transactions in Singapore’s waters, pledging to continue enforcement efforts and security checks to deter such illicit activities.
