GasLog activated its emergency response protocol immediately, contacting relevant authorities and assessing the situation while prioritizing crew safety. However, the firm has yet to disclose specific details regarding the nature or extent of the damage.
The announcement followed warnings from UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) regarding two separate attacks near the U.S.-coordinated Omani route in the Strait of Hormuz. The most severe incident involved a tanker roughly 11 nautical miles northeast of Lima, Oman, which reported being struck by an unidentified projectile, damaging its engine room; fortunately, no casualties or environmental harm was noted.
In another unrelated occurrence, a tanker reported a nearby explosion but confirmed no damage to its vessel. Both incidents are currently under investigation, and it remains unclear if the GasLog Shanghai event is connected to the UKMTO reports.
