Maersk A/S and Hapag-Lloyd AG have initiated their operational cooperation under the name Gemini on February 1st. The primary objective of this partnership is to provide a flexible and interconnected sea network within the industry. Their goal is to achieve a leading time planism of over 90% once fully integrated.
The newly formed network will consist of around 340 ships shared by Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, with the first sailings scheduled to begin on February 1st. Additional ships will gradually transition to the new schedules over the coming months.
The transition period is anticipated to extend until the end of May, during which time ships will be incorporated into the new network and disengaged from any previous arrangements with other carriers. By June, all ships will be fully operational on the Gemini time plans.
The combined network offered by Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd will cover East/West trades and include 29 Ocean Mainliner services along with an extensive network of 28 intraregional shuttle services. This collaboration marks an important milestone in the maritime industry, with news of the partnership first reported by Maritime Gateway.
