Man Energy Solutions has successfully completed a type approval test (TAT) for its innovative dual-fuel L35/44DF engine, designed for use as a generator and electrical drive at constant speeds of 720 and 750 rpm. The evaluation, conducted from April 7th to 11th at Stx Engine headquarters in Changwon, South Korea, assessed both methane and methanol-capable variants.
The L35/44DF CD improves upon the earlier L35/44DF CR model, featuring an advanced adaptive combustion control system that optimizes fuel injection by continuously monitoring combustion conditions. Alexander Knafl, Senior Vice President at Man Energy Solutions, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration with StX over the past three years, emphasizing the engine’s potential for container ship operators and LNG flight enhancers.
Vice President Sephardim Kobenz noted that the L35/44DF CD incorporates cutting-edge technology, including complete connectivity and robust cybersecurity measures. Reliability, fuel efficiency, and low methane emissions are pivotal selling points of this new engine. Designed to reduce both capital (Capex) and operational costs (Opex), the dual-fuel engine draws on the proven success of models like the L35/44DF CR and Man 32/44CR, known for their extensive operational hours.
