Five Indian nationals were safely evacuated after a Kuwait-flagged tanker, the MT Kazimah III, was hit by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz. The Indian Embassy in Oman confirmed that it collaborated with Omani authorities to ensure the crew’s safe return to shore. In a statement on X, the embassy reported that all five Indian crew members were successfully brought ashore.
Details regarding the source of the projectile and the extent of damage to the tanker remain unclear. This incident occurs amidst growing security concerns affecting commercial shipping in the Gulf region. Indian authorities are actively monitoring the safety of Indian seafarers operating in these waters.
Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, noted that over 4,500 Indian seafarers are currently working on commercial vessels in the area. Additionally, he mentioned that approximately 163 Indian crew members are aboard six Indian-flagged ships and six foreign-flagged vessels transporting cargo to India.
In response to the situation, India’s shipping authorities are coordinating with diplomatic missions and local agencies to oversee vessel movements and provide necessary assistance to ensure the safety of Indian nationals at sea.
