Exmar has officially received the MGC ANTWERPEN, recognized as the world’s first oceangoing vessel powered by a dual-fuel ammonia engine. This mid-size gas carrier can transport up to 46,000 cubic meters of ammonia or liquefied petroleum gas and operates with near-zero emissions when using low-carbon ammonia.

Developed in partnership with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, WinGD, Nord Gas Solutions, and Lloyd’s Register, the MGC ANTWERPEN not only meets but surpasses current International Maritime Organization emissions reduction targets, achieving up to a 90% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional vessels.

The vessel’s design prioritizes operational safety, leveraging Exmar’s extensive experience in handling ammonia and liquefied gases. The project involved comprehensive crew training, risk assessments, and collaboration with industry partners and Belgian authorities.
