Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and IBM Japan have launched an AI-powered platform to enhance decision-making in vessel operations by integrating operational, weather, and geopolitical data. Officially launched on July 1, the platform is anchored in MOL’s Safety Operation Supporting Center (SOSC), which oversees the safe operation of MOL-affiliated vessels globally.
This innovative platform consolidates previously scattered information on weather, sea conditions, and vessel operations, allowing for centralized monitoring and quicker identification of critical events. An AI assistant within the platform utilizes generative AI to assess risks in real time, drawing from historical data and current operational insights to aid in monitoring and decision-making.
Additionally, the platform leverages past accident data and operational knowledge for organization-wide sharing and analysis. Developed through the collaboration of SOSC’s operational expertise and AI technologies from MOL INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY INDIA and IBM Japan, the tool aims to enhance the efficiency of SOSC personnel in identifying incidents and making informed operational decisions.
MOL plans to further expand the platform’s capabilities and the range of operations it supports, aiming to improve safety across the shipping industry in partnership with affiliated companies.
