Qatar has strongly denounced an Iranian attack on a Qatari vessel near the Strait of Hormuz, urging Tehran to cease actions that jeopardize maritime security and global energy supplies. In a statement released on X, foreign ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari described the targeting of the Qatari LNG carrier Al Rekayyat during its transit through the strategic waterway as an “unacceptable attack” on the safety of international maritime navigation.
Al-Ansari emphasized that this incident not only threatens global energy supplies but also represents a serious violation of international law, particularly regarding the principles that ensure freedom of navigation and safe passage in international waters. He highlighted the importance of adhering to these rules to maintain regional and global stability.
The spokesperson called on the Islamic Republic of Iran to immediately halt all actions that undermine regional security and endanger the safety of maritime navigation. He urged Iran to refrain from jeopardizing global energy resources and the interests of regional countries for its narrow objectives. The statement underscores Qatar’s commitment to safeguarding maritime safety and the integrity of international shipping routes.
