MUMBAI: The Directorate General of Shipping has introduced a 24×7 Grievance Redressal Mechanism aimed at enhancing welfare services for India’s maritime community. This initiative is designed to provide timely support to seafarers and their families worldwide, ensuring that operational, professional, or emergency-related concerns are addressed swiftly and transparently.
The new support system allows seafarers and their families to access assistance through various channels, including toll-free helplines, WhatsApp support, and email. This mechanism aims to improve the efficiency of responses, particularly during emergencies, thereby reinforcing the commitment of DG Shipping to the welfare of Indian seafarers.
For domestic support, seafarers in India can contact the toll-free helpline at 1800-889-7768, while those overseas, especially in the U.S., can use the international toll-free number +1-888-988-0256. Additionally, WhatsApp support is available at +91 8655856830 for quick communication. For maritime casualties, a dedicated mobile number, 8657549760, has been established for urgent matters.
This launch highlights India’s commitment to seafarer welfare and responsive maritime governance, reflecting the nation’s ambition to enhance its standing as a global maritime leader and provide robust support to its seafaring community.
