In light of this increased maritime activity, the General Directorate of the Merchant Marine (DGMM) has issued safety recommendations to mitigate collision risks. With crowds focused on the sky and diminishing daylight, the DGMM emphasizes the importance of vigilance. Their campaign, encapsulated by the hashtag #SensatezEnElMar, urges boaters to prioritize navigation while enjoying the eclipse. Key guidelines include maintaining constant watch, ensuring navigation lights are operational, and adhering to safety regulations.
To enhance safety, the Maritime Rescue Service will bolster its presence in the Balearic Islands, deploying up to 70 professionals on patrol boats in high-traffic areas. Simultaneously, the Government of the Balearic Islands has initiated a comprehensive prevention operation, mobilizing 161 forest firefighters and environmental agents to monitor natural areas. Nationwide, over 33,600 agents will oversee 123 exclusion zones to ensure public safety, anticipating that between 1.8 and 2.9 million people will flock to designated viewing sites along the eclipse’s path.
