On September 22, a total of 25 crew members from the Liberia-registered container vessel MSC Hermes III were successfully rescued after abandoning their ship in a lifeboat. The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Singapore managed the operation, which occurred within Singapore’s designated maritime search and rescue area, approximately 300 kilometers east of Vietnam, as reported by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).
The MRCC received a distress signal around 8:45 AM and promptly broadcasted a request for assistance from nearby vessels. In response, three vessels came to the aid, with the MSC Ruby successfully recovering all 25 crew members from the lifeboat.
Fortunately, the MPA confirmed that all crew members were safe and reported no injuries following the incident. The MRCC is currently collaborating with the Vietnamese MRCC to facilitate the safe return of the rescued crew members to shore. This coordinated effort highlights the importance of maritime safety and the effectiveness of international cooperation in emergency situations at sea.
