UAE Tug Damaged in Mysterious Attack, Raising Security Alarms

Tug struck by projectiles off the UAE coast

A maritime tug sustained damage after being hit by two unidentified projectiles northeast of Khor Fakkan in the United Arab Emirates, resulting in one individual suffering minor injuries, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The incident occurred while the tug was traveling southbound, and despite the damage, it continued its journey.

UKMTO issued a warning to vessels in the vicinity, advising them to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. However, the agency did not disclose the origin of the projectiles or identify the party responsible for the attack.

Khor Fakkan is situated on the eastern coast of the UAE, facing the Gulf of Oman and located south of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. This incident follows a separate report from UKMTO on Saturday, which indicated that a tanker had also been struck by an unidentified projectile approximately 68 nautical miles northeast of Jubail, Saudi Arabia. The ongoing incidents raise concerns about maritime security in the region.
