Approximately 115 vessels and 2,500 seafarers have been evacuated from the Strait of Hormuz since Tuesday, according to Arsenio Dominguez, the secretary-general of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). This announcement was made during an online press conference on Friday.

Dominguez provided the update following the IMO’s decision to halt evacuation efforts for around 600 ships and 11,000 sailors on Thursday. This suspension came in response to a recent attack on a vessel in the Gulf of Oman, raising safety concerns for maritime operations in the region.

In his remarks, Dominguez highlighted that the evacuation of 115 vessels over the past three and a half days has successfully removed approximately 2,500 seafarers from the potentially dangerous waters of the Strait of Hormuz. The situation remains fluid, and the IMO continues to monitor developments closely.

The ongoing geopolitical tensions in the area underscore the importance of ensuring the safety of maritime personnel and vessels. The IMO’s actions reflect its commitment to safeguarding international shipping and maintaining secure navigation routes in the face of escalating threats.
