A seafarer lost his life and eight others were injured following a drone attack on the rescue vessel Ural. The incident occurred just days after the crew had been evacuated from a separate vessel, the Necibe, which had also come under drone attack while preparing to load wheat at the Port of Tuapse on 18 August. All 18 crew members from the Necibe were safely transferred to the Ural after the initial assault.
Tragically, on 21 August, while sailing in the same region, the Ural became the target of another drone strike. Among those on board was a cook rescued from the Necibe, who sustained critical injuries during this second attack and later died because medical help could not reach him promptly.
In addition to the fatality, eight more individuals suffered injuries as a result of the attack.
The Ural subsequently made its way to the port of Samsun in Türkiye on 22 August. Upon arrival, the deceased seafarer’s body was released to authorities, and the injured were transported to a hospital for treatment.
