MarineSolar Energy Solutions has successfully piloted its NanoDeck photovoltaic (PV) energy system on the RTM Cook, a vessel owned by Rio Tinto. This non-commercial trial aims to evaluate the technology’s performance in real-world marine conditions, marking a crucial step in testing renewable energy solutions for maritime use.
The NanoDeck system is designed to provide retrofittable renewable power for ships, both at sea and in port, thereby reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Over several months of ocean testing, the system has proven its durability, effectively withstanding harsh weather while continuously operating and transmitting data.
Initial results indicate that NanoDeck has the potential to significantly lower fuel consumption, offering ship operators an opportunity to reduce carbon emissions while accessing renewable energy on board.
In addition to its current capabilities, MarineSolar is investigating how NanoDeck could be integrated with other emerging marine energy solutions, including alternative propulsion technologies and lower-emission fuels, further enhancing its sustainability impact.
