The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. (SCI) recently reinforced its dedication to maritime excellence and workforce development through two significant initiatives. At its Mumbai headquarters, SCI hosted the Fleet Safety & Corporate Excellence Awards 2025, recognizing the exceptional contributions of its seafarers and employees. The event celebrated achievements in fleet safety, operational efficiency, leadership, and environmental stewardship, while honoring seafarers who showed extraordinary courage during the Strait of Hormuz crisis. Distinguished guests, including SCI Chairman Capt. B.K. Tyagi and senior maritime officials, highlighted the pivotal role of Indian seafarers in safeguarding the nation’s maritime and energy security.
In parallel, SCI advanced its commitment to cultivating skilled maritime professionals by welcoming a second batch of 24 trainees for the GP Rating and Certificate Course in Maritime Catering (CCMC) onboard MV Swaraj Dweep. This initiative is part of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways’ Structured Onboard Training Programme, which now has a total of 54 trainees gaining hands-on experience. The program equips young aspirants with essential shipboard training, enhancing their employability for domestic and global maritime careers.
Both initiatives underscore SCI’s strategic focus on safety, training, and operational excellence, aligning with India’s Maritime Vision 2030 and strengthening the nation’s reputation as a leader in the global maritime sector.
