The Merchant Navy Welfare Board (India) has partnered with the Global Seafarers Organisation to expand their initiatives globally. Dr. N. Reuben Paul met with Indian Ambassador Shri Rudrendra Tandon in Athens, Greece, to discuss appointing international coordinators in Greece and European ports. They focused on enhancing the welfare of Indian seafarers, promoting collaboration between Indian and Greek shipping corporations, and creating more employment opportunities for Indians in the Greek shipping market.
During his visit to Greece, Paul engaged with shipowners and shipping companies to discuss matters related to the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006 and Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) for multinational crews. The importance of elevating the skill sets of Indian seafarers to meet global standards was emphasized. Shipowners expressed interest in onboarding trainees and cadets to address the future shortage of officers and engineers.
This strategic collaboration aims to improve the quality of Indian seafarers’ welfare, training, and employment opportunities in the global shipping market. By establishing a stronger presence in global ports and fostering partnerships with key stakeholders, the Merchant Navy Welfare Board (India) is working towards enhancing the overall welfare and future prospects of Indian seafarers in the maritime industry.
