Three men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a hate crime attack on a Filipino crew member of a cargo ship in Avonmouth, near Bristol, UK. The incident occurred on Friday evening and involved a large group of individuals. In addition to the primary victim, two other Filipino crew members were assaulted during the attack. The police apprehended two men aged 19 and 45, along with a 17-year-old boy, and confirmed that reports of racist language were made during the incident.
Emergency services responded to the scene at Richmond Terrace around 8:30 PM BST. One man sustained serious injuries and remains in critical condition, while another crew member has been treated and discharged from the hospital. A third man suffered minor injuries. Superintendent Deepak Kenth indicated that the assault is being treated as a suspected hate crime, pending further investigation.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the attack but believe it to be an isolated incident with no broader threat to public safety. The police have also reached out to the organization Stand Against Racism & Inequality (SARI) for support for the victims. They are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
