The Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has launched an electric harbour craft (e-HC) charging point at the Marina South Pier in partnership with Pyxis Energy, Pyxis Maritime, and SP Mobility. This two-year trial is the first of three awarded by the MPA for electric vessel charging concepts, with the goal of promoting wider adoption of e-HC in Singapore. The pilot project includes a 150-kilowatt land-based Direct Current fast charger that can charge an e-HC with a 500 kWh battery capacity in around three hours.

MPA Assistant Chief Executive Capt M Segar highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships in promoting e-HC adoption, including improving vessel and battery designs, developing technical standards, and building charging infrastructure. The MPA is also working with Seatrium O&G and Yinson Electric on mobile charging and high-powered DC Charger concepts. By 2030, all new harbour craft in the Port of Singapore must be fully electric, capable of using B100 biofuel, or compatible with net zero fuels like hydrogen.

The trial of the e-HC charging point at Marina South Pier marks a significant step towards achieving Singapore’s goal of transitioning to cleaner and more sustainable maritime operations. The partnership between MPA, Pyxis Energy, Pyxis Maritime, and SP Mobility demonstrates a commitment to innovation and collaboration in developing electric vessel charging solutions. With plans to expand the use of electric and alternative fuel technologies in the maritime sector, Singapore is positioning itself as a leader in sustainable port operations and environmental stewardship.
