The 21 Filipino seafarers rescued from the MV Tutor, which was attacked by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea, are scheduled to arrive in Manila on Monday afternoon. The seafarers were rescued on Friday evening following the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced that the seafarers were warmly welcomed by Philippine Ambassador to Bahrain Anne Jalando-on Louis and are expected to board a flight back home on Sunday evening.
Accompanied by DMW Labor Attaché Hector Cruz, the 21 Filipino seafarers were part of the crew on the MV Tutor when it was attacked by Houthi rebels while sailing along the Red Sea on Wednesday. President Marcos ordered all relevant government agencies on Friday to ensure the safety of the Filipino seafarers, resulting in the successful rescue of 21 individuals while one remains missing aboard the vessel. The seafarers arrived at the Port of Manama, Bahrain, on Saturday at around 5:30 pm.
In a separate development, the remains of three Filipino workers who tragically died in a fire in al-Mangaf, Kuwait, are also set to be repatriated on Monday, following President Marcos’ directive to expedite the process. The fire incident occurred on June 12, and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration in Kuwait is facilitating the necessary documentation for the smooth transfer of the remains. The agency has assured assistance for the families of the victims during this difficult time.
