Windstar Cruises, known for its iconic Wind-class motor-sailing vessels, announced at Seatrade Cruise Global that it is expanding its fleet with two new motor-driven ships, the Star Seeker and Star Explorer. These newbuilds, with a capacity of 224 passengers, are smaller luxury cruise ships that Windstar refers to as “motor yachts” and are ice-strengthened for potential deployment to high-latitude markets.
The Star Seeker is currently under construction at the WestSEA yard in Portugal and is set to deliver at the end of 2025, with the Star Explorer following one year behind. These new vessels will allow the Wind Star, currently alternating between Europe and the Caribbean, to return to Tahiti in 2027. Windstar Cruises is a part of the Xanterra Travel Collection, which is a holding company of the Anschutz Corporation.
Andrew N. Todd, President & CEO of parent company Xanterra, expressed excitement about Windstar Cruises’ growth and future opportunities. With the addition of the Star Seeker and Star Explorer, Windstar is looking forward to expanding its sailing destinations and providing unique luxury cruise experiences for its passengers.
