The Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board is set to undergo a transformation, becoming the “Hong Kong Maritime and Port Development Board.” This reconstitution aims to establish a high-level advisory body that will assist the government in shaping policies and long-term development strategies. Chaired by a non-official member, the board will primarily consist of members from the maritime sector and will be supported by dedicated staff for research and publicity efforts.
In addition to the restructuring, the board will receive increased funding to bolster its research capabilities, strengthen promotional activities in Mainland China and overseas, and enhance manpower training. These measures are intended to improve the board’s effectiveness in policy implementation and to promote the sustainable growth of Hong Kong’s maritime industry. The board’s role will be crucial in supporting the government’s efforts in this regard.
Notably, the establishment of the Hong Kong Chamber of Shipping (HKCoS) was recently announced by the Hong Kong International Maritime Centre (IMC). This development underscores the ongoing efforts to enhance the maritime sector’s presence and influence in Hong Kong and beyond. The HKCoS is expected to play a significant role in advancing the interests of the shipping industry and contributing to its development in the region.
