The Cochin Shipyard Limited recently laid the keel of India’s largest dredger, the ‘DCI Dredge Godavari,’ for the Dredging Corporation of India. This Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger has an impressive hopper capacity of 12,000 cubic meters and is being built in collaboration with Royal IHC, Netherlands, a renowned leader in dredger design and construction. Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal virtually laid the keel for this significant vessel, marking a milestone in India’s maritime industry.

Once completed, the ‘DCI Dredge Godavari’ will be the most advanced dredging vessel ever constructed in India, boosting the capabilities of the largest Indian Dredging Company M/s DCI and supporting the vision of Maritime India 2030. With a length of 127 meters and a width of 28 meters, this high-capacity dredger will enhance India’s dredging capabilities and contribute to the growth of the coastal and inland shipping market. The vessel is being built under the globally acclaimed ‘Beagle’ platform of Royal IHC, ensuring top-notch quality and technology integration.

The construction of the ‘DCI Dredge Godavari’ signifies a significant step towards improving India’s maritime infrastructure and supporting the country’s shipping industry. With dignitaries such as the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to India and CSL MD, Madhu S Nair in attendance virtually, this momentous occasion showcases the collaborative efforts and technological advancements in the maritime sector.
