HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) has concluded its review of a proposed joint venture with India’s Cochin Shipyard aimed at establishing a new block fabrication plant. While the joint venture has been shelved, the companies will maintain their technical cooperation.
This decision follows a comprehensive memorandum of understanding signed in July 2025, which outlined potential business collaborations between HD KSOE and Cochin Shipyard. The initial agreement facilitated discussions on various cooperative ventures, including shipbuilding, design, and procurement.
Despite the termination of the joint venture consideration, HD KSOE emphasized that the two firms will continue their collaborative efforts. This includes ongoing technical exchanges, design and procurement support, as well as supplying essential equipment such as engines for feeder containerships. These vessels are part of contracts between Cochin Shipyard and French shipping giant CMA CGM.
In summary, while the proposed joint venture won’t proceed, HD KSOE and Cochin Shipyard remain committed to their partnership through technical cooperation.
