A man tragically lost his life after jumping overboard from the Carnival Liberty while en route from Celebration Key to Nassau. According to a Carnival spokesperson, the individual climbed over his stateroom balcony before leaping into the water. This statement marks a departure from the cruise line’s usual cautious phrasing regarding such incidents.

Reports indicate that a life ring was thrown to the man, suggesting he was seen as he fell. The ship’s crew promptly initiated a search and rescue operation, managing to retrieve him from the water. Unfortunately, he did not survive, and it remains unclear whether he was deceased upon being found or if he passed away shortly thereafter.

On May 13, tracking data revealed that the Carnival Liberty altered its course around 6:45 PM EST and resumed it at approximately 7:40 PM EST. The timeline of events surrounding the man’s fall has not yet been disclosed, but he was likely found during this one-hour interval.

This incident marks the 437th case of a person going overboard from a cruise ship since 2000, as noted by cruise expert Dr. Ross Klein. The last recorded incident occurred on the Norwegian Breakaway, involving a crew member off the coast of Cape Cod.
