The Directorate General of Shipping participated in the UN Ocean Centres Stakeholders’ Workshop, aimed at advancing a safe and sustainable ocean economy in India. This event took place on May 21, 2026, at the Crowne Plaza Ahmedabad City Centre. Shri Satish Kamath, Principal Officer (In-Charge) of the Mercantile Marine Department in Kandla, was the Guest of Honour and emphasized the significance of maritime safety, sustainable shipping practices, and capacity building for enhancing India’s ocean economy.

The workshop, organized under the Ocean Centres India initiative by the UN Global Compact Network India, convened a diverse group of stakeholders, including policymakers, regulators, industry leaders, academics, and community representatives. Participants engaged in discussions regarding critical issues affecting the maritime sector’s future.
