India and Liberia have issued a strong condemnation of recent attacks on shipping and seafarers, acting as co-chairs of the Group of Friends on Safety and Security of Shipping and Seafarers (GoF on S4). In a joint statement, the two nations expressed their outrage over a series of unacceptable assaults targeting commercial vessels and their crews in the Gulf region and the Black Sea over the past few days.
The statement highlighted that these violent actions not only disrupt vital maritime trade but also result in the loss of innocent lives, deeming them entirely indefensible. Both countries have called for an immediate halt to such attacks, emphasizing the need for peace and stability in the affected regions. They also expressed their condolences to the families of the seafarers who have tragically lost their lives and wished for the swift recovery of those injured.
The GoF on S4 was established on September 25 this year, with a mission to enhance cooperation in maritime security. The joint statement reaffirmed the commitment of both nations to foster greater coordination aimed at preventing future attacks and protecting the rights of seafarers in these perilous waters.
