India has successfully repatriated over 2,764 seafarers from the Gulf region, with approximately 12.96 lakh passengers returning from West Asia since February 28. The government has confirmed that all Indian seafarers in the area are safe and reported no incidents involving Indian-flagged vessels in the last 24 hours. Recently, 24 seafarers returned home from various locations in the Gulf, and the Ministry of External Affairs is closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety and welfare of Indian nationals in the region.
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways is implementing measures to protect Indian vessels and seafarers. Since February 28, nearly 1.3 million passengers have traveled back to India from West Asia, an increase from earlier figures. Indian nationals have been advised to avoid traveling to Iran, with those already there encouraged to exit through land borders with assistance from the Indian Embassy in Tehran, which has facilitated the safe return of 2,445 individuals via land routes.
The Directorate General of Shipping’s control room has handled thousands of inquiries, ensuring effective communication and coordination among maritime stakeholders. While ports in India are operating smoothly, the government continues to enhance flight connectivity from the region, with limited commercial flights available from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and other countries.
