India Strongly Condemns Attack on Merchant Vessel Near Oman

India has condemned the recent attack on the merchant vessel GFS Galaxy off the coast of Oman, labeling the ongoing assaults on commercial shipping in the Middle East as “deeply worrisome.” The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reported that ten of the eleven Indian crew members aboard the ship have been rescued, while one remains missing. Search and rescue operations are actively underway.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal indicated that India is closely monitoring the situation through its Embassy in Oman, which is collaborating with local authorities to locate the missing crew member. The Indian government has called for an immediate de-escalation of tensions in the region, emphasizing the importance of protecting commercial shipping routes and ensuring maritime security.

This incident occurs amidst rising instability in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping lane, where increasing regional tensions pose heightened risks to merchant vessels.
