The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and Gateway Terminals India Private Limited (GTI) have resolved a 14-year tariff dispute, establishing a ₹286.55 crore infrastructure development fund and refunding ₹18.1 crore to port users. This comprehensive settlement, facilitated by a Conciliation and Settlement Committee led by former Ports Secretary Gopal Krishna, is set to be finalized by the Bombay High Court’s May 21 deadline. The fund and user refunds will be divided between JNPA and GTI in a 65:35 ratio, aligning with their existing revenue-sharing agreement.

This dispute arose over tariffs and revenue-sharing under GTI’s 30-year concession at JNPA, which commenced in 2006. The resolution alleviates longstanding legal uncertainties that hindered commercial relations, enabling GTI to invest strategically in infrastructure as it manages one of JNPA’s key container terminals. The Bombay High Court criticized the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways for its inaction, prompting a decisive settlement pathway.

The ₹286.55 crore fund will finance various infrastructure enhancements at JNPA, although specific projects remain unnamed. This allocation supports ongoing initiatives, such as DFC rail connectivity improvements and upcoming developments, positioning JNPA to accommodate increased throughput as it targets over 10 million TEU in FY27 and beyond.
