Twelve cargo ships carrying 330,000 tonnes of urea and 257,000 tonnes of DAP are expected to arrive at Indian ports within the next 7–10 days, providing a timely boost to fertilizer supplies ahead of the kharif planting season. These shipments, delayed due to disruptions related to the West Asia crisis, will help meet the country’s agricultural needs.
As of June 14, 2026, India’s fertilizer stock reached 1.9665 crore tonnes, which is sufficient to fulfill this year’s crop requirements. A combination of imports and domestic production since March has helped maintain healthy inventory levels across the nation.
For the kharif season of 2026, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has reassessed the fertilizer requirement at 3.839 million metric tonnes, thereby ensuring that farmers will have adequate supplies during this crucial planting period. This proactive planning is vital for supporting agricultural productivity in the upcoming season.
