The Mormugao Port Authority has introduced measures to enhance India’s energy security and support exporters due to heightened geopolitical tensions near the Strait of Hormuz, affecting global maritime trade. The port authority has issued two trade notices prioritizing berthing for vessels carrying essential commodities and providing financial concessions to exporters shipping to Gulf nations.
Ships transporting critical cargo, including crude oil, LNG, LPG, and fertilizers, will be given priority berthing based on recommendations from relevant ministries. This initiative aims to mitigate potential disruptions in energy supply linked to the Gulf region, as emphasized by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways.
Additionally, exporters will benefit from a significant change in billing procedures. Effective immediately, all concessions and waivers for export cargo headed to West Asia will be reflected directly in billing, eliminating the need for upfront payments and subsequent reimbursements. This adjustment is expected to ease cash flow pressures for exporters dealing with ongoing shipping uncertainties and rising operational costs amid the current crisis in West Asia.
