Vizhinjam International Seaport has implemented formal procedures for crew sign-on, sign-off, and shore leave, enhancing its services for visiting vessels and international seafarers. This initiative, effective February 1, 2026, aims to bolster the maritime business ecosystem in the region.
The guidelines, established by Adani Vizhinjam Port Private Limited, apply to Indian-flag coastal vessels, foreign-flag vessels, and Indian vessels on international routes. Shipping agents must provide crew details and necessary documentation beforehand. Those dealing with foreign and non-coastal Indian vessels need to obtain permissions from Customs and Immigration. Crew members are required to present original documents during terminal entry or exit.
Sign-on and sign-off operations will now accommodate both Indian and foreign-flag vessels within port limits, including those at berth and designated anchorage areas, guided by requests from shipping agents or vessel masters. Additionally, a structured shore leave process has been introduced, allowing international crew to obtain shore passes and Indian crew on coastal vessels to access the shore under port-controlled procedures.
The formalization of these procedures is expected to reduce operational delays and stimulate demand for various maritime services surrounding Vizhinjam, showcasing its potential as a key player in the regional maritime industry.
