3D Visualization Tool Launched for Offshore Wave Measurement
Miros, a Norwegian expert in radar-based real-time ocean surface measurement, has launched a new 3D vessel view feature that provides crews and operators with a comprehensive perspective of the sea state around their vessel. This innovative interface is part of WaveSystem, a wave monitoring tool designed for weather-sensitive offshore operations, and it visually indicates where each wave measurement is taken. By consolidating all installed measurement sources, their respective areas, and essential wave data into a single, user-friendly display, it offers a bird’s-eye view that enhances operational safety.
The ocean conditions can vary significantly around a vessel due to factors such as wave direction, vessel heading, hull design, shielding, and the locations of measurement devices. When multiple measurement sources are present, comparing the data can help teams gain a clearer understanding of the differences in sea conditions across various areas, which is crucial for specific operational tasks.
With this new capability, bridge and deck crews can quickly evaluate conditions on both sides of the vessel, assess waves at critical working points like gangways or ROV launch sites, and identify discrepancies between measurement areas before they impact operations. This proactive approach transforms weather-sensitive operations into more controlled and manageable scenarios.
The visualization feature displays measurement sources, areas, and values in relation to the vessel, but it does not depict a reconstructed 3D sea surface. This distinction is important for users to understand the practical applications of the data in real-time maritime operations.
