Traffic in Turkey’s Bosphorus strait was halted on Thursday due to an engine failure on a northbound tanker passing through Istanbul, according to shipping agent Tribeca and the Transport Ministry. The Panama-flagged tanker Cordelia Moon, bound for Russia, experienced the engine malfunction near the Yenikoy area. An assistance vessel was dispatched to the scene to provide aid.
The incident caused a temporary suspension of traffic in the busy strait, which connects the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara. The Bosphorus is a critical waterway for global shipping, and any disruptions can have significant implications for maritime trade. The safety and efficiency of transit through the strait are closely monitored to prevent accidents and ensure smooth navigation for vessels of all sizes.
Efforts are underway to address the situation and safely resolve the issue with the tanker. Engine failures can pose serious risks to vessels and the environment, highlighting the importance of prompt response and effective assistance in maritime emergencies. Authorities are working to restore normal traffic flow in the Bosphorus once the situation is resolved and the tanker is able to resume its journey to Russia.
