Crew members of the Gas Lisbon tanker, which sustained damage off the Romanian coast, have revealed details about the drone attack that occurred. The vessel was reportedly struck by three drones, prompting the crew to initiate evacuation procedures and provide aid to injured colleagues. This information was shared by Digi24, highlighting the crew’s swift response amidst the chaos.
One sailor, Alexander Megrelidze, recounted being in his cabin when he experienced the first explosion, confirming that the tanker was hit three times. Despite the stressful circumstances, the crew efficiently organized an evacuation and began assisting three injured members. Another crew member, Alexander Arro, noted that the attack began around 11:00 p.m., with the first two drones targeting the engine room and the accommodation area.
Arro also mentioned that the third drone strike occurred approximately three hours after the initial attacks. He expressed concern over the delayed response from Romanian rescue services, which arrived four to five hours after the assault began. During this critical period, the crew conducted their own rescue operations, working diligently to mitigate the damage to the vessel and ensure the safety of their teammates.
