DNV, a global classification society, has confirmed that Carbon Ridge’s centrifugal onboard carbon capture system (OCCS) can achieve CO2 capture rates of up to 98%. This marks the first maritime use of a centrifugal OCCS, tested on an LR2 product tanker owned by Scorpio Tankers Inc. The assessment was conducted over a five-month pilot period starting in July 2025 at Besiktas Shipyard in Turkey, using the 109,999 dwt STI Spiga during its regular commercial operations.

The validation process involved a thorough review of methodologies and performance metrics, leading to corroborated peak CO2 capture rates exceeding 98%. Notably, 55% of the observations fell within an 86–98% range. This pilot signifies a significant advancement in maritime carbon capture technology, positioning Carbon Ridge as a pioneer in this field.

The centrifugal OCCS boasts a compact design that reduces space requirements by up to 75% compared to traditional systems. Its flexible installation options—either vertical or horizontal—allow it to meet the diverse needs of the global shipping fleet. Captured CO2 is safely compressed, liquefied, and stored throughout the voyage, enhancing its practicality for maritime operations.
