The Embassy has reiterated its appeal to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, insisting on immediate consular access for a detained Russian citizen and demanding his swift release, according to an official statement.

In response to Western sanctions, Russia has been utilizing older vessels, referred to as the “shadow fleet” in Western media, to transport its oil and gas supplies. France and Britain have committed to actively obstructing these vessels as part of a broader European strategy aimed at diminishing Russia’s capacity to finance its ongoing military operations in Ukraine.

Russia, however, disputes the characterization of the “shadow fleet,” asserting that its oil shipments are completely legitimate. The country has condemned Western efforts to intercept its tankers, labeling these actions as illegal and likening them to acts of piracy. Moscow has warned that it retains the right to take necessary measures to safeguard its shipping interests.
