Greece’s Motor Oil Group and Coral Marine recently made history with the first delivery of bio marine fuels in the country. This milestone marks a significant step towards reducing emissions and promoting a green transition in the shipping industry. The delivery took place on the cruise ship Celestyal Discovery at the Port of Lavrio in southeastern Attica, showcasing the use of an oil-biofuel blend that can reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 21%.
The fuel blend used in this groundbreaking delivery consists of oil produced at Motor Oil’s refinery and biofuel sourced from the group’s Verd plant in Greece. The biofuel is created from used cooking oil collected from the Greek market, highlighting a sustainable approach to fuel production. This innovative initiative not only helps in reducing emissions but also sets a precedent for the adoption of more environmentally friendly practices in the maritime sector.
By incorporating bio marine fuels into their operations, Motor Oil Group and Coral Marine are leading the way towards a more sustainable future for the shipping industry in Greece. This move aligns with global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change. The successful delivery on the Celestyal Discovery demonstrates the feasibility and benefits of using biofuels, encouraging other companies to follow suit and contribute to a cleaner, greener maritime sector.
