Iran is currently evaluating a U.S. response to its proposal concerning the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei announced that Iran will communicate its reply to Washington through intermediaries once the review is complete. He also mentioned that Iran continues to exchange messages via these intermediaries, who are playing significant roles in mediating discussions aimed at ending the ongoing conflict that began with U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28.

Following the collapse of a June interim ceasefire and the resumption of hostilities, Iran submitted its proposal in mid-September and acknowledged receiving a response from the U.S. However, progress has stalled, as Iran’s security chief stated that the U.S. response did not adequately address Tehran’s seven conditions necessary for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and resuming negotiations. A key point of contention remains the U.S. focus on Iran’s nuclear program, while Tehran insists that discussions should concentrate first on the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial passage for global oil and LNG trade.

In relation to the escalating conflict between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthis, an ally of Iran, Baghaei reiterated Tehran’s willingness to assist in resolving the crisis through dialogue. He emphasized that the situation in Yemen should have been settled long ago following the UN roadmap, expressing support for any agreement reached by the Yemeni and Saudi parties.
