Singapore-based Proteus Energy has unveiled its modular hydrogen fuel cell system, the Proteus Maritime Fuel Cell Solution, aimed at enhancing clean energy for ports and vessels. Each fuel stack delivers 75 kW and can be scaled for greater power needs, specifically designed for harbor craft and vessels in coastal, offshore support, and inland waterway sectors.

Developed in collaboration with Symbio France, the technology promises zero tailpipe emissions, minimal noise and vibration, low maintenance costs, and rapid refueling capabilities. It also allows for long-term hydrogen fuel storage without loss, making it a practical alternative for hybrid vessels by extending their range and reducing battery load, thereby improving overall vessel efficiency.

Proteus anticipates that the Maritime Fuel Cell Solution will be ready for delivery by January 2026. CEO Lars Gruenitz emphasized the urgent need for effective clean energy solutions in the maritime sector, highlighting the system’s compact and lightweight design as crucial for space-constrained vessels. He described it as a cost-effective option for operators aiming to significantly advance their decarbonization efforts.
