Wärtsilä Water & Waste has launched a modular grease trap product line aimed at effectively separating fats, oils, and grease from galley wastewater on merchant vessels, cruise ships, and offshore platforms. This innovative solution enhances wastewater management and protects the marine environment by capturing grease before it enters discharge systems, ensuring compliance with regulations.

Proper management of fats, oils, and grease is vital for onboard wastewater handling. If unchecked, grease can clog pipes and treatment systems, leading to operational disruptions and increased maintenance needs. The GREASE TRAP – GM Series addresses this issue by separating grease at the source, reducing blockages and ensuring reliable wastewater system operation.

Designed according to BS EN 1825, the European standard for grease separators, the system employs a gravity-based separation process. Wastewater enters the unit, allowing solids to settle while grease rises to a collection chamber. The clarified water then proceeds through the vessel’s discharge system.

Available in four sizes, the GREASE TRAP – GM Series offers options for easier grease handling and disposal, including both manual and more automated solutions. This product is part of Wärtsilä’s comprehensive wastewater management portfolio, set to launch in May 2026.
