A female crew member aboard the Celebrity Constellation was found dead after the ship docked in La Spezia on July 19. The 33-year-old stewardess from Mauritius was discovered in her cabin by her partner, who also works on the ship. Medical personnel were called to the scene, but she was pronounced dead shortly after. Italian authorities are investigating the incident, which is being treated as a suspected suicide, although the official cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
Following the ship’s docking, police and forensic experts from La Spezia boarded to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death. Prosecutor Giacomo Gustavino interviewed the deceased’s partner as part of the inquiry. Investigators are reviewing security footage from the vessel and may order an autopsy as the investigation continues. The woman’s body has been moved to Sant’Andrea Hospital’s mortuary, where it is under the jurisdiction of judicial authorities.
The family of the deceased has expressed concerns about the investigation’s transparency and accountability, indicating that they feel several aspects remain unresolved. They plan to seek legal representation through an international law firm. At the time of the incident, the Celebrity Constellation was on a 10-day Mediterranean cruise, scheduled to end on July 20.
