ClassNK has awarded its Innovation Endorsement for Products & Solutions to the ‘Freshness Keeping Catalyst’, a product developed by Nikki-Universal Co., Ltd. and distributed by Sojitz Machinery Corporation. This innovative solution effectively removes ethylene gas released by fruits and vegetables, thereby preserving their freshness.
During the certification process, ClassNK verified that the catalyst, when installed in refrigerated storerooms aboard vessels, helps maintain the quality of food supplies for crew members and minimizes food waste. This endorsement aligns with ClassNK’s commitment to enhancing food preservation methods in maritime environments.
Moreover, vessels registered with ClassNK that utilize this product can be designated with the ‘ELW’ notation (FP) – Freshness Preservation. This notation signifies that these ships provide superior living conditions, allowing companies to showcase their dedication to improving onboard environments for their personnel.
