Paradip Port Authority Assesses Western Dock Terminal Development and Performance

Ships berthed at Paradip Port in Odisha, India

The Paradip Port Authority (PPA) has conducted a review of the Western Dock terminal at Jindal Paradip Port Limited (JPPL), emphasizing the operational readiness and progress toward commissioning Phase I. This initial phase is designed to handle 12.5 million tonnes of cargo annually, with the broader project aiming for a total dry bulk cargo handling capacity of 25 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). The meeting involved discussions on achieving full berth mechanization, enhancing cargo handling efficiency, and bolstering rail and road connectivity for smooth cargo evacuation.

During the review, the successful berthing of deep-draft Capesize vessels was highlighted, showcasing the port’s capability to accommodate larger vessels and improve bulk cargo operations. A key focus of the evaluation was also on sustainable practices, adherence to safety standards, and the implementation of technology-driven logistics solutions to optimize efficiency.

Furthermore, improving connectivity is seen as critical to the terminal’s productivity. Strengthened transportation links are anticipated to alleviate logistics bottlenecks and support the port’s increased handling capacity, thereby reinforcing its significance in maritime trade, especially along India’s eastern coast. This review is part of the ongoing efforts to enhance Paradip Port’s infrastructure and operational capabilities.
