As regulations surrounding shipping emissions continue to evolve in Europe and globally, maritime technology firms Awake.Al and Tidalis have formed a partnership aimed at enhancing emissions monitoring and reporting for ports and shipping companies. This collaboration integrates port-call operational data with existing maritime systems to facilitate automated emissions reporting.

Awake.Al’s emissions monitoring software will be combined with Tidalis’ vessel traffic services and port management systems, which are utilized by ports, coastguards, and maritime authorities worldwide. Shipping companies and ports are increasingly obligated to report emissions in accordance with regulations like FuelEu Maritime, the EU ETS, and the IMO’s decarbonization goals.

The partnership will utilize Awake.Al’s Emission Monitor alongside Tidalis’ operational data to automate Scope 1-3 emissions reporting, encompassing port-call, vessel, fueling, cargo handling, and shore power data. This initiative aims to streamline emissions data management for ports and shipping companies, reducing manual reporting processes and enhancing transparency.

Karno Tenovuo, CEO of Awake.Al, emphasized the importance of measuring emissions for effective decarbonization, noting that deployments will begin in European ports this year to comply with CSRD requirements. Tidalis CEO Geert-Jan den Besten echoed this sentiment, highlighting the growing need for practical emissions transparency in maritime operations. The rollout will initially target European ports, with plans to expand to the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Americas by 2026 and 2027.
