The collaboration between two companies has led to the creation of MariControl, a platform designed to streamline the vessel data chain for shipowners and operators. By merging data collection, onboard hardware, connectivity, software, and AI analytics, MariControl provides a unified environment for gathering and interpreting vessel data. Currently, DBMatic and Weforsea technology is operational on over 250 vessels, exemplified by the UK225 fishing trawler Auke Senior, which utilizes integrated hardware and software to deliver insights on voyage optimization, energy efficiency, market data, and weather conditions via a single dashboard.
As the shipping and fishing industries face increasing demands to minimize fuel consumption and emissions, simplify reporting, and leverage onboard data for operational insights, MariControl aims to connect existing sensors and equipment with advanced software and analytics. This approach will enhance the practical utility of vessel data for daily decision-making, both on board and ashore. Key applications include monitoring vessel performance, predictive maintenance, and optimizing fuel and emissions, while also providing AI tools tailored for the fishing sector.
MariControl’s Managing Director, Louwe Post, emphasizes the importance of an integrated ecosystem over standalone systems, asserting that the platform combines data, hardware, and AI seamlessly. Initially, the focus will be on digital reporting and compliance to alleviate the administrative burden on shipowners and crews, utilizing existing vessel data without necessitating extensive new hardware installations. The company plans to target customers in the Netherlands and Europe, with aspirations for international expansion, and will be officially introduced at SMM Hamburg. Co-owner Meindert-Jan de Boer highlights the mission to empower maritime businesses to leverage their operational data for improved decision-making and to navigate the ongoing digital transformation.
